A Grand Dame of gospel, Helen Baylor was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was raised in Los Angeles where, as a young woman, she opened for acts like Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. She later toured the country with the musical "Hair" and with collaborated artists such as Chaka Khan and Captain & Tenille. She was 35 years old when she recorded her debut gospel album "Highly Recommended". Baylor married her manager, James Baylor, and continued to cut albums like "My Everything", "Love Brought Me Back" and her "Greatest Hits", released in 1999 by Warner music.
