Throughout much of the 70s and 80s, tenor saxophonist Gato Barbieri has been an enigmatic presence on the international jazz scene. Born in Argentina, Barbieri got his first break playing with Lalo Schifrin as a teenager. His biggest success came somewhat as an accident in the form of a highly sensuous soundtrack he recorded for the controversial 1972 film "Last Tango in Paris", starring Marlon Brando. In his most productive mid 70s to mid 80s period, Barbieri recorded a number of solo albums for A&M and worked with Miles Davis’ producer Teo Macero.
