France Gall

France Gall was born in 1947 in Paris, France. She was a pretty teenager in the sixties, back when the world seemed open and full of promises, and recorded her debut EP, the smash hit “Ne Sois Pas Si Bete”, in 1962, a catchy tune that was helped along by a stunning cover photo. In 1965 Gall won the Eurovision Song Contest with “Poupee de Cire, Poupee de Son”. Her 1966 song “Les Sucette”, a Serge Gainsborough-penned ditty about a girl and a lollipop, became controversial because of its allusions to oral sex, which she claimed not to be aware of – something modern-day vocalists would never do.
