Fats Waller

Fats Waller was born on May 21, 1904 in New York, USA and went on to become one of the greatest jazz pianists ever. He recorded his debut single, “Birmingham Blues” at age 18 while he was working as a pianist for hire for movie theatres and clubs. His 1929 recording “Handful of Keys” is testimony to his unique playing technique, but he became best known for his irreverent shows and entertainment skills, which let to him being featured in a number of movies such as “King of Burlesque” (1935). Waller died in 1943 during a tour of the USA.
