Dottie West

Tennessee-born Dottie West is a defining voice of the Nashville sound. Raised by a single mother, a small entrepreneur, West began performing as a child. She studied music, married young and moved to Cleveland. She made musical appearances on Landmark Jamboree, a popular TV program, while angling for a Nashville recording contract. Contract accomplished, she moved to Nashville where she became friends with Patsy Cline and other leading country names. "Love Is No Excuse" was West's first appearance in the Top Ten in 1963. She then metamorphosed from 50's frump to a 70's sex-goddess.
