Del Shannon
Del Shannon set hinself apart from the other teen idols of his era by writing his own music and by his unique use of minor chords. His 1961 debut single, "Runaway", went straight to number 1. He continued to be successful for several years, releasing such hits as "Hats off to Larry"and "Little Town Flirt", even as many of his contemporaries fell out of favor in the face of the British Invasion. On one of his European tours in 1963, he played shows with the Beatles, who had just scored their first big hits. He went on to become a successful producer. He unexpectedly killed himself in 1990.
