Damita
Damita is known for her powerful, yet soft and tender voice. She got her start in music by singing in the church choir, and later she toured with a gospel theater group called Mama Don't. After this she joined the a cappella group Adoration & Praise. Damita is the wife of Gospel legend Deitrick Haddon. With the help of her husband and producer Arif Mardin, she finally made her solo debut with a self-titled album in 2000. She credits Aretha Franklin as helping to give her the inspiration and confidence to set out on her own.
