You remember where it all started, right? Britney Jean Spears was an all-singing, all-dancing member of Disney's Mickey Mouse Club and Virtue was her middle name. Either that or it was Virgin, but let's not get bogged down in the details. She was then thrust into a school uniform, told the world to hit her (baby), oh go on, once more if you like, and a pop megastar was born. Hit after hit followed for the Louisiana lass and suddenly Britney was more than a pop star: she was a feeling, a sex symbol and a brand.
Blonde ambition seemed to be enough to keep her at the top, especially after she snogged Madonna on-stage at the 2003 MTV Awards. However, an ill-advised marriage to dancer Kevin Federline, two kids, a breakdown and a custody battle soon meant Britney's mind not being totally on the job - but with good reason. Musically, she's come through unscathed, with 2007's Blackout the album of her career to date: let's hope that her mental state and well-being follow suit, because we HEART Britney.
