Moving to Brooklyn from his home Philadelphia, Bilal Sayeed Oliver started his career after graduating from Mannes Music Conservatory in jazz performance and arrangement. Getting in touch with female performer Erykah Badu, the two collaborated on her "Mama's Gun" album, which helped him land a deal with Moyo Music/Interscope. In '01, Bilal released his debut album "1st Born Second", produced by himself. His single "Soul Sista" appeared in the "Love and Basketball" movie soundtrack and his vocal was featured in Common's hit, "The 6th Sense".
