The songwriting/production team of Ashford & Simpson formed in the sixties when Nickolas Ashford, who was born in 1942 in Fairfield, USA and Valerie Simpson, born on August 26, 1946 in New York, started to write songs for artists such as Ray Charles, Marvyn Gaye and Tammi Terrell. They penned hits such as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” for Motown and married in the early seventies. As a music act Ashford & Simpson also released a number of albums, and in 1984 they had an international hit with the song “Solid”. Nickolas Ashford made his big screen debut in the 1991 movie “New Jack City”.
