Airto Moreira
Airto Moreira was born in 1941 in Itaiopolis, Brazil. He started to sing and play percussion at an early age and moved to Sao Paulo at age 16 to work in the nightclubs and for the TV stations as a professional percussionist and vocalist. In 1967 Moreira moved to New York where he became a part of the happening jazz scene, playing on seminal records such as Miles Davis’ “Bitches Brew” (1970). In 1974 he formed his first US band called Fingers together with the vocalist Flora Purim. Solo releases by Moreira included the album “Life After That” (2003).
