Led by percussionist Bonjo I, psychedelic dub specialists African Head Charge were formed in the early 80's.They released most of their seven albums through the On-U-Sound label, founded by fellow dub terrorist Adrian Sherwood, who also produced most of their records. Other band members included Prisoner, Junior Moses and Sunny Akpan. AHC soon became On-U-Sound's most popular act, despite not touring behind the first four albums. After pausing for a number of years, AHC came back full swing with "In Pursuit of Shashamane Land" in 1994.
