5 Chinese Brothers
None of these musicians are actually brothers (nor are they Chinese). The band's moniker was actually borrowed from a popular children's story book. Their music isn't specifically country, nor is it folk, but it tends to fall in between those cracks in a warm and 1970s-styled Cosmic American Musical fashion. Whatever you want to call them, 5 Chinese Brothers play music more catchy than a prickly pear cactus. The songwriting available here seems pulled from a rich, overflowing well of feel-good musical inspiration. The song melodies soar as fast and as high as the band's vocal harmonies, and their musicianship is simply outstanding. Perfect music for listening to while you're waiting for Reprise and A&M to release more Gram Parsons outtakes from their vaults.
